With the start of the new year, the organizers of the 14th International Semantic Web Conference (ISWC 2015) are very excited to share with you a glimpse of what is being planned. ISWC is the premier international forum for presenting research results on the Intelligent Processing of Data on the Web. ISWC brings together researchers from different areas of computer science, such as artificial intelligence, databases, distributed systems and information retrieval who aim at the development and use of novel technologies and techniques for accessing, interpreting, processing and using information on the web in a more effective way. In this announcement: 1) New and Updated Tracks 2) Workshop and Tutorial deadline coming soon: March 10 3) Tracks 4) Join our mailing list ================================================ 1) New and Updated Tracks ISWC 2015 will feature new and updated tracks: - Empirical Studies and Experiments - Special Research Track - In-use and Software Track - Datasets and Ontologies Track See below for a brief description and links to the respective calls. ================================================ 2) Workshop and Tutorial deadline coming soon: March 10 ISWC will host workshops on topics related to the general theme of the conference. The role of workshops is to provide a context for a focused and intensive scientific exchange in a particular topic. Workshops are the primary venues for the exploration of emerging ideas. ISWC will also host tutorials addressing the diverse interests of its audience: Semantic Web practitioners who wish to learn about new technology; novices to the Semantic Web interested in introductory tutorials to key Semantic Web / Linked Data topics; Government and Industry representatives focusing on the applicability of Semantic Web / Linked Data technologies in practical settings. Proposals for Workshops and Tutorials are due March 10 http://iswc2015.semanticweb.org/calls/workshops http://iswc2015.semanticweb.org/calls/tutorials ================================================ 3) Tracks ISWC 2015 solicits submissions to the established Research, Industry, Doctoral Consortium and Poster/Demo tracks. A special research track is added: Empirical Studies and Experiments. The In-Use track has been updated to include Software. Additionally, a new trace is being introduced: Datasets and Ontologies track. Research Track The ISWC2015 Research track is looking for original research papers that present innovative systems, applications and research results related to the combination of semantics, data and the Web, dealing with analytical, theoretical, empirical, and practical aspects in all these areas (including not only the ones that use the RDF-based stack but also those that use other representations). Abstracts: April 23rd, 2015 Full Paper Submission: April 30th, 2015 http://iswc2015.semanticweb.org/calls/research-track Empirical Studies and Experiments - Special Research Track The aim of this special research track is to offer researchers a platform to report on novel empirical studies and experiments related to frameworks, models, methods, and implementations in the field of semantic technologies. The track opens up the Semantic Web field to research contributions that go beyond the design and engineering approach that is at the core of this community. It welcomes novel and original submissions that present insights drawn from empirical studies and experiments taking into account the usage of Semantic Web artifacts in socio-technical contexts in particular. Abstracts: April 23rd, 2015 Full Paper Submission: April 30th, 2015 http://iswc2015.semanticweb.org/calls/empirical-studies-and-experiments In-use and Software Track The In-Use and Software track at ISWC 2015 provides a forum for the semantic web community to explore the benefits and technical challenges of applying semantic technologies in concrete, practical applications, in contexts ranging from industry to government and science. Novel applications of these technologies, or the development of novel software tools for deployment in practical applications are the primary focus of this track. Abstracts: April 23rd, 2015 Full Paper Submission: April 30th, 2015 https://iswc2015.semanticweb.org/calls/use-and-software-track Datasets and Ontologies Track *NEW* The Data and Ontologies track introduces important data sets and ontologies to the Semantic Web community. We are looking for submissions that describe ontologies and/or data sets that are published using best practices and have demonstrable use or potential for reuse. Additionally, we encourage lessons learned from the creation of these resources. Finally, we are interested in innovative methods for representation and data integration used to create the dataset or ontology. Abstracts Due: April 23, 2015 Full Papers Due: April 30, 2015 http://iswc2015.semanticweb.org/calls/data-sets-and-ontologies Doctoral Consortium The Doctoral Consortium provides Ph.D. students working on the Semantic Web area the opportunity to share and discuss their research problems in a critical but supportive environment. The Consortium aims to broaden research perspectives and to improve research and communication skills of the students, in addition to create an international atmosphere where students will meet prominent professors, researchers, and other Semantic Web Ph.D. students from around the world. Submission Due: June 8th, 2015 http://iswc2015.semanticweb.org/calls/doctoral-consortium Poster and Demo The Posters and Demonstrations Track complements the Research Paper track of the conference and offers an opportunity for presenting late-breaking research results, on-going research projects, and speculative or innovative work in progress. The Track invites submissions relevant to the area of the Semantic Web and which address, but are not limited to, the topics of the Research Track; the Replication, Benchmark and Data Track; and the Semantic Web In Use Track. Technical posters, reports on Semantic Web software systems, descriptions of completed work, and work in progress are all welcome. Demonstrations are intended to showcase innovative Semantic Web related implementations and technologies. Submission Due: June 30th, 2015 http://iswc2015.semanticweb.org/calls/posters-and-demos Industry Track The industry track welcomes Michael Atkin, Managing Director, Enterprise Data Management Council as the keynote scope. This track will feature presentation on successful commercial and industrial applications of semantic web technology. The presentations will be drawn from mainstream and exciting niche markets and will cover success stories, quantitative value propositions, and emerging opportunities. Submission Due: July 10, 2015 http://iswc2015.semanticweb.org/calls/industry ================================================ 4) Join the mailing list If you are interested in keeping up to date to the latest news and announcements of ISWC, please join our mailing list: https://lists.lehigh.edu/mailman/listinfo/iswc2015-l ================================================ Juan Sequeda Department of Computer Science University of Texas at Austin http://www.cs.utexas.edu/~jsequeda
