How the Web bootstrapped happend

Found this old post [1] describing how the power of hyperlinks and the 
"view source" pattern drove the Web to the point of critical mass, via 
HTML. IMHO -- a variant of this pattern (maybe: "view data" or "view 
description")  will unveil the the Web's data space dimension (re. 
Linked Data) to the masses.
