Open Post Doc Position in Data Processing at Fujitsu Ireland Galway

* Position Profile *

Fujitsu are in the process of undertaking a research programme based in
Ireland which will focus on the area of Networked Data and its potential
applications. As part of that research we are looking for a Post Doc
researcher with relevant experience to take a role within Fujitsu
Ireland research team. The successful candidate will contribute to a
research undertaking in the area of LinkedData between Fujitsu and the
research group DERI (Digital Enterprise Research Institute) based in NUI,
Galway.

This will be an exciting role with the opportunity to work with a world
class research team from both DERI and Fujitsu Laboratories with the
emphasis on developing research outcomes aimed at a global audience. At a
high level the chosen candidate will need to show experience of
the following qualities:
-Working within a team of researchers based locally within Ireland and
internationally
-Working within an industrial or academic research setting (with a
multinational organisation)
-Undertaking research within project’s problem space
-Strong interpersonal skills with a natural inclination to leadership and
effective communication

The person will be hired as a Fujitsu Researcher on a contract basis for
the period of the research which is likely to be 2 years in duration.


* Competencies (Knowledge/Skills/Experience) - Mandatory: *

-PhD qualification in Computer Science or related field
-Research experience in Linked Data/Semantic Web technologies
-Research experience in data integration, query processing and/or
information retrieval
-Large-scale data management experience (e.g. Hadoop, NoSQL databases).
-Sound knowledge of web architecture incl. Linked Data, Rest, HTTP
-Fluent in one of the following with experience in at least one of the
others: Java, Scala, Python


* Competencies (Knowledge/Skills/ Experience) - Desirable: *

-Experience with polyglot architecture e.g. Storm, Cassandra, Avro, Pig
-Experience with cloud environment and Linux server configuration
-Experience in one or more of the following domains: bioinformatics,
financial data management or public data analysis
-Evidence of coding quality and style (provide a pointer to online code
repositories such as GitHub or Google Code, if possible)
-Solid understanding and interest in the commercial potential of Linked
Data
