SOVARR Project Announcement

Dear All,

I would like to invite all interested parties to contribute to the Shared Open Vocabulary for Audio Research and Retrieval (SOVARR) project. The aim of the project is to investigate how to define a shared vocabulary for representing content-based audio features, how the audio research communities would benefit from that, and what are the main barriers for the uptake of shared vocabularies. 

Following insightful and constructive discussions at the Shared Open Vocabularies late-breaking session at ISMIR in Porto, we would like to invite participants from the audio research communities to contribute to the discussion forums and wiki pages on the project website (http://sovarr.c4dm.eecs.qmul.ac.uk/).

There are 2 forums to facilitate discussions and generate ideas on the topics of how shared ontologies and Semantic Media technologies can benefit the interoperability and sustainability of audio research workflows and datasets. 

The community forum is a public space for anyone interested in the subject and can be used to post ideas and start discussions on general topics regarding shared vocabularies and audio features. 

The user forum is meant for participants who create an account and would like to contribute to the review of existing tools and development of the new vocabularies. The forums can be accessed following this link:

The SOVARR wiki is meant as a collaborative space to suggest ideas and designs for audio feature ontologies, review existing audio features and software tools used to compute them, draft requirements specifications, and anything else that can guide the development of new shared vocabularies.
