********************************************************************************* Call for Posters and Demos http://ekaw2012.ekaw.org/node/59 at the International Conference on Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Management 2012 http://www.ekaw.org/ ********************************************************************************* Introduction --------------- The poster and demonstration session of EKAW 2012 is an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to present their innovative prototypes, practical developments, on-going projects, lessons learned and late-breaking results, to discuss with other conference participants and to establish new collaborations. We also encourage contributions that are likely to stipulate critical or controversial discussions about any of the areas of the EKAW conference series (knowledge management, knowledge engineering and acquisition, and knowledge in use). We particularly welcome submissions focusing on this year’s special topic (knowledge engineering and knowledge management that matters), which include practical applications of knowledge management technologies addressing the challenges of real-world data and use cases. Demonstrations of applications, systems and tools with potential or realised impact in particular domains are therefore highly encouraged. This year, demonstration papers will be included in the proceedings of EKAW. High quality descriptions of the application, system or tool being demonstrated as well as of its (potential) impact will therefore be expected. Please be aware that the submission deadlines and page limits are different for poster and demonstration submissions. Topics of interest --------------------- Topics of interest include, but are not restricted to the following areas: Knowledge Management - Methodologies and tools for knowledge management - Knowledge sharing and distribution, collaboration - Best practices and lessons learned from case studies - Provenance and trust in knowledge management - Methods for accelerating take-up of knowledge management technologies - Corporate memories for knowledge management - Evolution, maintenance and preservation of knowledge - Web 2.0 technologies for knowledge management - Incentives for human knowledge acquisition (e.g. games with a purpose) Knowledge Engineering and Acquisition - Tools and methodologies for ontology engineering - Ontology design patterns - Ontology localization - Ontology alignment - Knowledge authoring and semantic annotation - Knowledge acquisition from non-ontological resources (thesauri, folksonomies etc.) - Semi-automatic knowledge acquisition, e.g., ontology learning - Mining the Semantic Web and the Web of Data - Ontology evaluation and metrics - Uncertainty and vagueness in knowledge representation - Dealing with dynamic, distributed and emerging knowledge Social and Cognitive Aspects of Knowledge Representation - Knowledge representation inspired by cognitive science - Synergies between humans and machines - Knowledge emerging from user interaction and networks - Knowledge ecosystems - Expert finding, e.g., by social network analysis - Trust and privacy in knowledge representation - Collaborative and social approaches to knowledge management and acquisition - Crowdsourcing in knowledge management Special Focus: "Knowledge Management and Knowledge Engineering that matters" Real-world applications of methods for knowledge management and engineering in domains such as - e-Government and public administration - Life sciences, health and medicine - Automotive and manufacturing industry - Cultural heritage applications - Digital libraries Development and evaluation of publicly available knowledge repositories for new applications or domains Methods and methodologies addressing the challenges of real-world data, e.g., - Scalability, robustness etc. - Maintenance costs and financial risks - Privacy and data security Lessons learned from case studies, e.g., - Knowledge management in large organizations - Adoption of semantic web technologies - Maintenance of corporate knowledge repositories Submission -------------- Authors must prepare a paper in PDF format (Springer Verlag LNCS guidelines: http://www.springer.com/computer/lncs/lncs+authors?SGWID=0-40209-0-0-0), which describes the planned contents of the poster or demonstration to be presented, and submit it via EasyChair (http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=ekaw2012pd ). The maximal length of the paper is 4 pages for demonstration descriptions and 2 pages for posters. A poster description should be an informative abstract motivating the relevance of the poster with respect to the topics of interest of EKAW 2012. A demonstration paper should contain a description of the application, tool or system being demonstrated, of its relevance to the conference, and of its (potential) impact generally, or in a particular domain. Each paper will be reviewed by members of the poster/demonstration program committee, who will judge the originality, topicality and clarity of the proposed contents.
