I have updated the TaxonConcept Knowledge Base data set. There are some changes that are worth mentioning. There is an additional download file mentioned in the void and sitemap.xml.gz called *se_states.rdf.gz* <sc:dataDumpLocation>http://lod.taxonconcept.org/txn_base.rdf.gz </sc:dataDumpLocation> <sc:dataDumpLocation>http://lod.taxonconcept.org/species_01.rdf.gz </sc:dataDumpLocation> <sc:dataDumpLocation>http://lod.taxonconcept.org/species_02.rdf.gz </sc:dataDumpLocation> <sc:dataDumpLocation>*http://lod.taxonconcept.org/se_states.rdf.gz* </sc:dataDumpLocation> <sc:dataDumpLocation> http://lod.taxonconcept.org/rdf/txn_wi_usda_plants.rdf.gz </sc:dataDumpLocation> This contains statements about which species are expected in what geographical areas (geonames) ** Note this is an early version and it is not entirely correct. If I don't know about a particular species it is listed as "txn:isUnknownAboutIn" Alternatives: <species> txn:isExpectedIn <geographical area> <species> txn:isUnexpectedIn <geographical area> <species> txn:isUnknownAboutIn <geographical area> The reverse <geographical area> txn:hasExpectationOf <species> <geographical area> txn:hasLowExpectationOf <species> <geographical area> txn:hasUnknownExpectationOf <species> I wanted something similar to a state bird checklist. That is even rare sightings of wild individuals should be included. This is similar to what I have done in the GeoSpecies data and EUNIS has a similar ExpectedIn predicate in their data and vocabulary. Right now I only have statements about North America, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, and Texas (for Fishes of Texas). The plants for Wisconsin and Massachusetts are based on the USDA Plants dataset. The Texas fishes are from the Fishes of Texas dataset. The other organism groups are a little haphazard right now. Also I changed the txn vocabulary slightly so that it would validate as OWL 2. http://lod.taxonconcept.org/ontology/txn.owl http://lod.taxonconcept.org/ontology/doc/index.html The sitemap has been updated http://lod.taxonconcept.org/sitemap.xml.gz The void file as been updated http://lod.taxonconcept.org/ontology/void.rdf The human readable pages look somewhat different example: http://lod.taxonconcept.org/ses/mCcSp.html *The intent of these is to provide useful LOD identifiers for species so I thought it best to not try to create something like eol.org.* I also ran a new sparql query on the data set to get interlinking stats which I will send in a follow up email. My wife is calling us to dinner so I better go :-) - Pete ---------------------------------------------------------------- Pete DeVries Department of Entomology University of Wisconsin - Madison 445 Russell Laboratories 1630 Linden Drive Madison, WI 53706 TaxonConcept Knowledge Base <http://www.taxonconcept.org/> / GeoSpecies Knowledge Base <http://lod.geospecies.org/> About the GeoSpecies Knowledge Base <http://about.geospecies.org/> ------------------------------------------------------------
