With the increasing number of technologies being developed, the problem of how to compare and evaluate the various approaches gains more and more importance. Such evaluation is critical not only for future scientific progress, but also for the industrial adoption of the developed technologies. Currently, the evaluation of Semantic Web technology and its applications is difficult and expensive. Practitioners want to evaluate their tools and to have data sets available in order to minimize the evaluation cost. Also, there are some data sets that are widely being used by the community (such as the Lehigh University Benchmark). The problem is that it is difficult for users and developers to replicate these semantic technology evaluations, to know what they are intended for, or to correctly use them. The importance of evaluation for the growing maturity of semantic technologies calls for established and agreed upon evaluation methods and data sets. However, the achievement of these consensual mechanisms requires to be actively driven by the whole community and, to this end, the community requires a forum to express their opinions and to discuss them. In the successful series of EON workshops we intend to bring together researchers and practitioners interested in the evaluation of semantic technologies, providing a meeting point and forum. Thus, the main goal of this workshop is to lay the foundations for sharing and reusing methods and tools for the evaluation of semantic technologies, such as ontology development tools, ontology matching tools, ontology storage and reasoning systems, semantic search tools, semantic web service tools, rule systems, etc. To this end, this edition of the EON workshop, besides presenting and discussing latest research on semantic technology evaluation and its future trends, will contain a special session on "Evaluation methods and test data for semantic technologies". Contributions for this session will be evaluated not just on their overall quality but also on their reusability. SPECIAL SESSION ON "EVALUATION METHODS AND TEST DATA FOR SEMANTIC TECHNOLOGIES" Besides having presentations of papers including latest research on semantic technology evaluation, this year we will have a special session on "Evaluation methods and test data for semantic technologies". For this session, we ask for papers that present existing or novel evaluation methods or test data for semantic technologies, including the information needed to use them. In this session, besides paper presentations, we will provide time for openly discussing the proposed methods and data sets. TOPICS OF INTEREST Main topics of interest cover any type of semantic technology and include but are not limited to: * Semantic technology evaluation methods * Evaluation tools and data sets * Interoperability and compliance evaluations * Efficiency and scalability evaluations and benchmarks * Usability of semantic technologies * Evaluations of semantic technologies in real world scenarios * Semantic technology certification * Semantic technology recommendation IMPORTANT DATES * Deadline for paper submissions: August 10th, 2009 * Notification of acceptance: September 1st, 2009 * Camera-ready versions: October, 2nd, 2009 * Workshop day: October 26th, 2009 SUBMISSIONS Papers must be submitted in PDF format via the Easychair system prior to the paper submission deadline: http://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=eon2009 Papers page limit is 10 pages and they should be formatted according to the ACM SIG Proceedings guidelines. The submission of papers for the special session is identical to the submission of regular papers.
