Hi, all, We had a very good panel at the ASIST 2010 In Pittsburgh: "Linked Data --Enabling Standards and Other Approaches". Jon, Ed., and I are on the panel. Here we would like everyone to pay some attentions to the presentation by Sam Oh: ¡§Linked Data and Identifiers¡¨. [1] He gave an update of the ISO TC46/SC9 (Identification and Description) activities. In addition to the many Identifiers we know, such as ISSN, ISBN, IS Text Code, IS Recording Code, IS Musical Work Code, and IS Audiovisual Number, he emphasized ISO 27729: IS Name Identifier (slide #23¡Ğ#35¡^. ¡§The ISNI identifies ¡§Public Identities used publicly by parties involved throughout the media content industries¡¨ *In the ISNI system, parties may be natural, legal of fictional.¡¨ He showed the relation of IS Name Identifier with others such as VIAF, IPN, and IPI (slide #29) and gave the technical architecture view. He also presented a ¡¥big picture¡¦ of various identifiers together. (He is pushing hard to get ISO open their standards for free. ) He had two slides on Topic Maps (slide 14 and 15). Another good and detailed presentation is by Mark Needleman and Jody DeRidder: ¡§NISO I2 (Institutional Identifiers)¡¨ [2]. Slide 18 is a very good scenario illustration. All panel¡¦s ppts are linked from NKOS homepage.[3] Marcia [1] http://nkos.slis.kent.edu/2010ASIST/ASIST2010-1-LinkedData-ISO-Identifiers-SamOh.pdf [2] http://nkos.slis.kent.edu/2010ASIST/ASIST2010-4-NISOI2-DeridderNeedleman.pdf [3] http://nkos.slis.kent.edu/
