Introducing myself and the project AccessibleMaps

Dear all,

I am Claudia Loitsch, a postdoctoral researcher in HCI with a particular
interest in digital accessibility and universal design thinking. In our HCI
research group led by Prof. Gerhard Weber at the Dresden University of
Technology, we have built up a strong expertise in the area mobility of
people with disabilities. Our research interest especially lies in the field
of indoors to support navigation and orientation in buildings.

I would like to introduce our project AccessibleMaps to this mailing list.
The project is a cooperation between the Technische Universität Dresden and
the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and is funded by the Federal Ministry
of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) until September 2022.

In the project AccessibleMaps, we address the fundamental gap that indoor
maps are hardly available and standards to make indoor maps available,
perceivable, usable, understandable and robust to people belonging to a
population with the widest range of capabilities are still missing. To
address this problem, we are going to develop tools to support the indoor
mapping process by semi-automatic methods. More specifically, we pursue the
objective to extracted spatial data from buildings plans (e.g. escape plans,
architectural drawings, etc.) and translate the data into OpenStreetMap data
format (i.e. Simple Indoor Tagging, SIT). A particular challenge is to model
spatial and accessibility-related information of buildings. I believe, this
working group is a great place to share ideas about the data modelling. We
would be pleased to get to know you and the objectives of this working group
better and to brainstorm if and how we can contribute

Best regards,

Claudia Loitsch
