Dear Colleagues,
please find here below the Call for Papers of the 13th International
Workshop on Formal Ontologies Meet Industry (FOMI 2024), part of the
Joint Ontology Workshops (JOWO 2024) co-located with 14th International
Conference on Formal Ontology in Information Systems (FOIS 2024), 15-19
July 2024, Enschede, Netherlands.
You are encouraged to submit full or short research papers.
Accepted papers will be published in a volume of CEUR Workshop
Proceedings (Scopus-indexed).
Thanks and best regards,
Walter Terkaj

FOMI is an international forum where academic researchers and industrial
practitioners meet to analyse and discuss application issues related to
methods, theories, tools, and applications based on formal ontologies.
There is today wide agreement that knowledge modelling and the semantic
dimension of information play an increasingly central role in networked
economy: semantic-based applications aim to provide a framework for
information and knowledge sharing, reliable information exchange,
meaning negotiation and coordination between distinct organizations or
among members of the same organization.
Theoretical ideas often seem very promising, but their implementation
brings up unexpected problems and issues. The FOMI 2024 Workshop aims to
collect valuable experiences and lessons learned by the presentation of:
- Experience with problems in ontology application.
- New insights on known problematic issues.
- New results.
- Successes and observations in ontology implementation.
- Lessons learned on the best way to apply ontological methodologies to
real-world situations.
FOMI 2024 will facilitate open discussion and experience sharing.
Similar problems arise in disparate ontology applications and an open
discussion helps to highlight commonalities and to spread ideas for
possible solutions. FOMI welcomes researchers and practitioners that
embrace this perspective without restrictions on the domains they deal
with: business, medicine, engineering, finance, law, biology, geography,
electronics, etc.
The FOMI series is supported by the International Association for
Ontology and its Applications (IAOA; https://iaoa.org/) and organized by
the IAOA-ISTC committee
(https://iaoa.org/index.php/faq/industry-and-standards-technical-committee/).
*Topics of interest (not exhaustive) *
-----------------------------------
1) Problems in ontology application:
- Practical issues in using ontologies in enterprises;
- Real cases of successful/unsuccessful use of ontology;
- From legacy systems to ontology-driven systems.
2) Ontology and knowledge management:
- Ontological methodologies in data modelling and knowledge management;
- Adaptation of formal ontologies for companies and organizations;
- Ontology development and change within companies/organizations;
- Ontology effectiveness and evaluation;
- Ontologies for the know-how;
- Ontologies for corporate knowledge.
3) Ontology in practice:
- Ontologies for engineering (manufacturing, design, etc.);
- Ontologies for electronic catalogues, e-commerce, e-government, etc.;
- Ontologies for marketing;
- Ontologies for finance;
- Ontologies for medical sciences;
- Ontologies for IoT.
*Submissions *
--------------------
Papers should be submitted non-anonymously in PDF format following the
new CEURART Style guidelines for 1-column format
(https://appliedontolab.github.io/fomi2024/download/paper_template.zip)
via Easy Chair (https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=fois2024). Two
types of submission are available:
- Full research papers: min. 10 pages, max. 12 pages (including
references).
- Short paper: between 5 and 9 pages. This track is intended for
researchers and practitioners who want to share their practical
experiences with ontologies or ontology-based software.
Please consider the FAIR guidelines for the submission of your paper:

*Publication*
--------------------
All contributions to JOWO workshops will be published in a joint CEUR
proceedings volume.
*Registration*
--------------------
Information about the registration to the workshop will be published on
the FOIS website (https://www.utwente.nl/en/eemcs/fois2024/).
