##DEADLINE EXTENSION FOR PAPER SUBMISSION## Extended deadline: 24 July 2017 Consider to submit a paper to ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 8th Workshop on Formal Ontologies meet Industry #FOMI 2017 (www.loa.istc.cnr.it/workshops/FOMI2017/home.html<http://www.loa.istc.cnr.it/workshops/FOMI2017/home.html>) Co-located with the Joint Workshop on Ontologies #JOWO2017, Bolzano, Italy FOMI is an international forum where academic researchers and industrial practitioners meet to analyse and discuss application issues related to methods, theories, tools and applications based on formal ontologies. There is today wide agreement that knowledge modelling and the semantic dimension of information play an increasingly central role in networked economy: semantic-based applications aim to provide a framework for information and knowledge sharing, reliable information exchange, meaning negotiation and coordination between distinct organizations or among members of the same organization. Theoretical ideas seem often very promising but their actual implementation brings up unexpected problems and issues. The FOMI 2017 Workshop aims to collect useful experiences and lessons learned by the presentation of (1) experience with problems in ontology application, (2) new insights on known problematic issues, (3) new results, successes and observations in ontology implementation, (4) lessons learned on the best way to apply ontological methodologies to real-world situations. FOMI 2017 will facilitate open discussion and experience sharing. Very similar problems arise in disparate ontology applications and an open discussion helps to highlight commonalities and to spread ideas for possible solutions. For this reason, FOMI welcomes researchers and practitioners that embrace this perspective without restrictions on the domains they deal with: business, medicine, engineering, finance, law, biology, geography, IoT, electronics, etc. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Important dates: +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Submission deadline: 17 July 2017 Notification of acceptance: 1 September 2017 Camera-ready version: 15 September 2017 Workshop date: 21-23 September 2017 @JOWO 2017(exact date TBD) +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Conference Topics +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Relevant topics include but are not limited to : Problems in ontology application: ● Practical issues in using ontologies in enterprises ● Real cases of successful/unsuccessful use of ontology ● From legacy systems to ontology-driven systems Ontology and knowledge management: ● Ontological methodologies in data modelling and knowledge management ● Adaptation of formal ontologies for companies and organizations ● Ontology development and change within companies/organizations ● Ontology effectiveness and evaluation ● Ontologies for the know-how ● Ontologies for corporate knowledge Ontology in practice: ● Ontologies for electronic catalogues, e-commerce, e-government, etc. ● Ontologies for marketing ● Ontologies for finance ● Ontologies for medical sciences ● Ontologies for engineering (manufacturing, design, etc.) ● Ontologies for IoT +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Submissions +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ We encourage different types of contribution: Full research paper: Submitted papers must not exceed 12 pages (including the bibliography) and must include an abstract of no more than 300 words. Extended Abstracts: Submitted papers must not exceed 4 pages. This track is thought for researchers and practitioners who want to share their practical experiences with ontologies or ontology-based software. In the submitted abstracts, authors are expected to provide the motivations for adopting ontologies in their workflows, as well as the advantages or disadvantages due to the adoption of ontologies. In the case of ontology-based applications, the authors have to provide information concerning the use of the software, as well as the software functionalities implementing the ontologies (e.g., query, data annotation, consistency checks, reasoning, etc.). Authors whose abstracts are accepted for presentation will be asked to provide a short demo of the software during the workshop. Papers should be submitted non-anonymously in PDF format following <http://www.iospress.nl/service/authors/latex-and-word-tools-for-book-authors/> IOS Press formatting guidelines<http://www.iospress.nl/service/authors/latex-and-word-tools-for-book-authors/>. The Easychair submission page can be found at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=jowo2017<https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=jowo2017> (select the track "Formal Ontologies meet Industry") All contributions to JOWO workshops will be published in a joint CEUR proceedings volume, compare http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-1517/ for JOWO 2015, http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-1660/ for JOWO 2016.
