Hello folks,
Here’s a proposed agenda for tomorrow’s meeting. I believe I gave regrets prematurely last week and do plan to attend tomorrow.
Meeting: Invisible XML Community Group
Date: 25 November 2025
Chair: Steven
Scribe: Steven
Present:
Regrets:

2025-11-11-b: NW to add Symposium to every agenda
Completed

Completed
Topic: Status reports
Topic: New open issues
+ #332 Invisible XML media type
https://github.com/invisiblexml/ixml/issues/332
+ #330 XML Namespace not referenced in iXML
https://github.com/invisiblexml/ixml/issues/330
+ #329 Unicode version not referenced in the spec
https://github.com/invisiblexml/ixml/issues/329
+ #310 Not possible to set priority on rules
https://github.com/invisiblexml/ixml/issues/310
Topic: First Int’l Symposium on Invisible XML
Topic: Ambiguity umbrella topic
It was suggested that “ambiguity” is at the root of a number of issues/topics including rule priorities, negation, the subtraction operator, etc. How do we want to organize the process for tackling these issues?
Topic: Perspectives on serialization
NW proposes we merge #296. We can revisit in the future, but this PR has been waiting review for months.
See https://github.com/invisibleXML/ixml/pull/296
Preview: https://invisiblexml.org/pr/296/index.html
Diffs: https://invisiblexml.org/pr/296/autodiff.html
Topic: Modularization
Possible discussion of some of the ideas presented in Steven’s MarkupUK paper. (I’d like to point to it, but the MarkupUK proceedings doesn’t seem to support doing that. At least, the frames version, which is the only version I can find, doesn’t.)
Topic: A subtraction operator
See https://github.com/invisibleXML/ixml/issues/249
Topic: Next meeting
Normal date and time for ixml meetings is every other Tuesday at 3 pm British Time, 4 pm Central European Time (15:00 UTC during winter time, 14:00 UTC during summer time)
On the usual schedule, the next meeting would be Tuesday, 9 December, at 15:00 UTC for one hour.
We plan to meet “off-schedule” the following Tuesday as well, 16 December, at 15:00 UTC to discuss the symposium submissions.
For the record: the current state of the minute-taking rota is:
+ John Lumley, 2025-09-30
+ Norm Tovey-Walsh, 2025-10-14
+ Steven Pemberton, 2025-11-11
Be seeing you,
norm
