Agenda
12 -1 pm EST Keynote: Designing Technology for an Aging Population

Dr. Jeff Johnson
If a website or app’s target audience includes older adults, certain
aspects of its design become more important. This talk describes age-
related factors that affect ability to use websites and apps, and
presents design guidelines that reflect the capabilities, usage patterns,
and preferences of older users.

Features:
• Demographics of users of digital technology, by age,
• Age-related factors affecting ability to use computers and online
services,
• Common design problems that decrease usability for older adults,
• Design guidelines that can help designers avoid these common
pitfalls.

Intended audience: IAs, Designers, and developers of all levels.
Also: Q/A engineers, usability testers, and managers.

Break

1:15 - 2:15 pm EST Continuing Education for Information Architects (IAs)

Dr. Rupananda Misra, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey
How to teach UX professionals, stakeholders, and evolving
information architects to improve the user experience—making
complex information understandable and accessible.
Learn about practical IA experience and standards in real-world
situations.

Intended audience: Information architects of all levels.
Also: Usability and UX professionals of all levels.

Break

2:30 - 3:30 pm EST Information Architecture, Accessibility, and Web Standards

Noreen Whysel, City University of New York (CUNY)
According to the Information Architecture Gateway (IAG), Information
architecture (IA) is organizing and labeling content to support findability,
accessibility, and usability. Accessibility has emerged as one of the core components
of a good IA, as well as essential methods, standards, and strategies.
