Re: Proposed objectives and next steps for Accessible Infographics community group

Hi Ed, quick personal introduction: I work for the DAISY Consortium [1], a not-for-profit organisation that; amongst other things; works on open standards and designs software solutions for accessible publishing, primarily addressing the needs of visually-impaired and print-disabled persons.

I am involved in some aspects of the DIAGRAM project [2], most notably we implemented an integrated authoring user-interface within the production workflow of DAISY Digital Talking Books, including support for aural (human-narrated) image descriptions.

I see that Gerardo Capiel (Benetech) wrote a short introduction [3] to the DIAGRAM project on the Infographics Community Group blog, and that George Kerscher (DAISY Consortium) posted a related comment [4] in reply to Ed's blog article. I am glad to see the quality of other participants in this group as well. Let's hope the community continues to grow.

The wiki [5] is currently pretty empty, so I took the liberty to add some information about the DIAGRAM project. I suspect that feeding the wiki with links to the outcome of existing research / development projects is an effective and lightweight way to kick-start some activity around use-cases and functional requirements. I look forward to reading further contributions from other members.

Best wishes to you all, kind regards.
Daniel
