This affects the design significantly, for example by establishing the event flow model and conventions for defining the API. This is not a general UI proposal; it is a Web-related proposal due to the context and technological background. As a further illustration, one question which this group will need to consider is whether to define an activation event distinct from the click event; the history of past proposals, and especially the guidance in the DOM 3 Events draft and HTML 5 regarding the use of the click event are both highly relevant to that decision, whereas this would not be the case if the work were independent of the Web environment. Some aspects of the work may motivate parallel efforts in other areas, of course, beyond the Web context, but that is not directly of concern here.
