I believe VRML already had something like this, but I can't find the link. I had implemented this in VisCIS (My VR interface to CompuServe (RIP)). If there was a file with the name "Home.VRML" in the files library, that became the default world when you entered the forum. However, very few copies of this shipped. I think the concept of the existing favicon nomenclature and a different MIME type makes the most sense - I'm a firm believer of using existing standards, per XKCD. It can be up to the browser to download the MIME type that it's most comfortable with, and if the designer creates similar content via different types, it'll gracefully degrade. https://xkcd.com/927/ == John == ________________________________ From: Rik Cabanier <rcabanier@magicleap.com> Sent: Friday, August 17, 2018 3:32:08 PM To: public-immersive-web@w3.org Subject: 3d favicons All, We're interested in coming up with a standardized way of supporting 3D favicons so a website can have a 2D and a 3D icon. Helio [1] already implemented some support but we want to have a standardized solution that incorporates everyone's input. Is anyone else interested in pursuing this?
