I wrote up a blog post with some issues with regards to the use of MIME in the web, and some open issues with regard to MIME registrations and use in W3C specifications. The document touches on versioning, content-type sniffing, and a few other things: http://masinter.blogspot.com/2010/06/mime-and-web.html The W3C TAG has opened this as an "issue" on the "web architecture" document http://www.w3.org/2001/tag/group/track/issues/66. It's likely that some updates to the MIME documents in IETF would be appropriate, and some suggestions are listed at the end of the blog post. I thought I'd note this in the IETF/W3C Liaison list, since the MIME specifications are developed in IETF but used or referenced in many W3C specifications. Larry -- http://larry.masinter.net
