Hi all, I had a look at "Best Practice 19: Avoid CDATA sections when possible". Please find my high-level feedback below. Cheers, Christian === 1. I wonder if we need a BP for schema developers which corresponds to this BP for authors. Unfortunately, it does not seem to be easy to come up with wording that BP. A recommendation could possibly be: Look at DocBook, DITA, Office Open XML, OASIS Open Document to see how for example program listings (usually "candidates" for being put into CDATA sections) can be represented in an XML vocabulary. 2. Without 1., our "How do this" may look incomplete, since authors will not be able to use an alternative to a CDATA section. 3. An example might make clearer. Suggestion: Explain by means of a document which explains a snippet of JavaScript code which includes a translatable string. 4. The "Why do this" section may also mention that support for CDATA sections in tool environments quite often is limited (this at least was the case when I last looked at it). 5. I see a certain risk in mentioning CDATA sections in the first place: Some authors may not know about them, some editing environments give you a hard time creating them. 6. To me, Felix' proposal (see http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-i18n-its/2007JulSep/0076.html) is a good elaboration of what we currently have. 7. I wonder if we should mention that processing instructions and XML comments may pose similar challenges as CDATA sections. === Christian Lieske MultiLingual Technology Solutions (MLT) SAP Language Services (SLS) SAP Globalization Services SAP AG Dietmar-Hopp-Allee 16 D-69190 Walldorf Germany T +49 (62 27) 7 - 6 13 03 F +49 (62 27) 7 - 2 54 18 christian.lieske@sap.com http://www.sap.com Sitz der Gesellschaft/Registered Office: Walldorf, Germany Vorstand/SAP Executive Board: Henning Kagermann (Sprecher/CEO), Léo Apotheker (stellvertretender Sprecher/Deputy CEO), Werner Brandt, Claus Heinrich, Gerhard Oswald, Peter Zencke Vorsitzender des Aufsichtsrats/Chairperson of the SAP Supervisory Board: Hasso Plattner Registergericht/Commercial Register Mannheim No HRB 350269 Diese E-Mail kann Betriebs- oder Geschäftsgeheimnisse oder sonstige vertrauliche Informationen enthalten.
