I recommend that whenever a document introduces discussion of an Indic syllable, a term such as 'graphical syllable' be used. Later, for the sake of brevity, 'syllable' can be used, but it is important to remember that a syllabic cluster in Indian writing and text processing does not necessarily conform to a syllable phonologically analysed. A consonant conjunct may often bridge two phonological syllables, even though it belongs to a single graphical syllable. JH
