Hello All, Myself Dr. Somnath Chandra , from W3C India and looking after the internationalization activity. W3C India strongly believe that rechartering of Internationalization Core Working Group. W3C India Also strongly believes that this group should have the capacity to produce recommendation track documents. This is eesential because , of the momentum of the growth of multilingual web and internet. The recommendations also need to have capability to be submitted bodies like ISO. In India we have 22 Indian Languages and Internationalization is our core focus. Many of the W3C standards in the speech and Mobile needs to incorporate the multilingual requirements so that they can be adopted inbuilt in the standard. We have been limited to "Note" status documents. While this is sufficient for many of our needs, some work that would naturally seem to fit into the Internationalization Core WG has been or is being contemplated to be published elsewhere because of this limitation. > > It is proposed that the Internationalization Core WG when rechartered be able to publish REC track documents. One implication of this is that REC-track documents are done under the W3C Patent Policy [2]. Members and their respective organizations should consider carefully whether this would limit or eliminate their ability to participate actively in the WG as a result of this change. We would like to understand if there is any impact on participation as a result of this change. > > Please bear in mind that participation in the current WG *is* affected by the Patent Policy, Section 6, as laid out in our current charter. > > Your comments and support in the future will ensure the continuation of this vital activity. > > Please send your comments on this topic to Richard and myself. > > Regards, > > Addison > > [1] http://www.w3.org/International/Activity > [1a] http://www.w3.org/2006/10/i18n-recharter/core-charter > [2] http://www.w3.org/Consortium/Patent-Policy-20040205/ > > Addison Phillips > Globalization Architect (Lab126) > Chair (W3C I18N WG) > > Internationalization is not a feature. > It is an architecture. > > > > -- Dr. Somnath Chandra Scientist-D Dept. of Information Technology Govt. of India Tel:+91-11-24364744,24301811 Fax: +91-11-24363099 e-mail :schandra@mit.gov.in
