Core homework page

     [31] http://esw.w3.org/topic/coreHomework

Would it be useful to keep this up?

<MickM> Core Homework Page -lists some tasks awaiting attention.
   Should this page be maintained?

<MickM> MM - More useful than agenda. Agenda arrives too late.

<MickM> Felix - agrees that Core homework page a good idea. Little
   worried about additional workload

<MickM> RI - yes it's more work, BUT! - might be the diff between
having participants read material before mtg or not

<MickM> RI - might create agenda in wiki

<MickM> All - please send additional agenda requests via email to RI

<MickM> DC: adding to wiki - reasonable to allow edit-all?

<MickM> RI - yes. Would be fine.

<MickM> "Moving to UTF-8" article. RI went to move to published last
week. - but realized there were some comments outstanding.

<MickM> Andrew will parse these comments

<scribe> ACTION: Andrew, read comments for What should I consider

   Any thoughts?

<MickM> "XML Schema Comments" - summarized by Felix

<MickM> Felix - drafteed new comments based on old

   <MickM> Felix - 2 new comments. 1 - allow i18n related markup in
   schemas

   <MickM> ITS now available - wasn't before.

<MickM> 2. Dates in say French representaiton. When comment first
made - not much available to create locale specific data rep.

   <MickM> Now CLDR available

<MickM> Felix: Would be good to have such a mechanism in XML Schema
   1.1

<fsasaki> would propose a mechanism to use instead of "2007-03-27"
(current date data type) the following : "ï¼ï¼ï¼ï¼å¹´ï¼ï¼æï¼ï¼æ¥

<MickM> RI - we currently get the En representation - since it's an
   ISO format

<MickM> Currently XML SChema only allows locale non-specific
   date/time format

<MickM> RI - Q: One country can have several date/time format
variations. Is Felix recommending one format per country, or that it
   conform to a general format?

<GregAaron> Yes, one country can have variants. Certain sections of
   the US, for example.

<DavidClarke> Currently only ISO format is allowable

<DavidClarke> Felix suggests that data types could be defined for
   each new locale

<DavidClarke> and the data source. e.g. CLDR

<DavidClarke> Which is similar to ISO notion of date and time

<DavidClarke> RI suggests that specifying a CLDR locale ID which
could then be used for validation

<DavidClarke> which gives automatic extensibility via a CLDR data
   type

<DavidClarke> e.g. using this in 5 languages, but extend the XML
document to include data eith the CLDR id

<DavidClarke> Felix suggests that there needs to be a schema entry
to say that a field is a a CLDR compatible field.

<DavidClarke> XML schema gives lexical representation and value
   representation

<DavidClarke> this would enable mapping lexical representation of
data type to local indementant form in XML schema processor

<DavidClarke> at present both have a 1 to 1 (ISO to ISO)

<DavidClarke> Felix wants option to provide Lexical to ISO mapping
   for content creators

<DavidClarke> Felix would like this mechanism to be defined. e.g. as
   a schema annotation

<DavidClarke> Felix prepared to start with it as a private query to
   XML schema WG

<DavidClarke> RI suggests taking it forwards in the way that the no
   language tag was handled

<DavidClarke> Felix is preparing a detailed paper on the subject,
but it is not ready for circulation yet

<DavidClarke> RI can we collect this info in a centralised location?

<DavidClarke> Felix suggests that starting it as private and then
adding paper when it is ready

<scribe> ACTION: Felix, send private email to XML SChema to discuss
   point 2 in
   [36]http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Member/member-i18n-core/2007Mar/003

SPARQL review

   gMatches

     [38] http://www.w3.org/TR/2007/WD-rdf-sparql-query-20070326/#func-langMatches

<fsasaki> Returns true if language-range (second argument) matches
language-tag (first argument) per Matching of Language Tags
   [RFC4647] section 2.1. RFC4647 defines a case-insensitive,
hierarchical matching algorithm which operates on ISO-defined
subtags for language and country codes, and user defined subtags. In
   SPARQL, a language-range of "*" matches any non-empty language-tag
   string.

<DavidClarke> Felix: suggest BCP47 reference needed

<DavidClarke> Felix: proposes dropping second sentence as RFC4647
does not specify this, and RFC4647 does not operate ISO defined
   subtags

<GregAaron> logging off for another meeting; see you next time.

<DavidClarke> RI : Should say operates on languages defined in the
   subtag registry

<DavidClarke> Felix: This is the only area that still seems relevant
   to i18n
