Comments from the JLReq TF meeting on 2024-11-12 According to Bin-sensei and Yamamoto-san, collisions between ruby and underline, or boten/kenten, do not and should not occur in print. Editors typically address such situations by altering the method of emphasis, removing either the emphasis or the ruby, or finding another solution. However, this issue can arise in digital content, particularly when full ruby is specified for accessibility purposes. As there are no established layout rules for this scenario, it can currently be left to implementors. It appears that Firefox displays both (ruby and kenten), whereas other browsers only show ruby. We will revisit this topic in the future during discussions on jlreq-d. Yamaguchi-san suggested that authors could resolve the issue by specifying the ordering using CSS or by defining the distances between the main text and the annotations. Murata-san noted that ruby should take priority due to its importance for accessibility. Using parentheses as an alternative is not a good solution for people with disabilities. -- GitHub Notification of comment by kidayasuo Please view or discuss this issue at https://github.com/w3c/jlreq/issues/9#issuecomment-2499348163 using your GitHub account -- Sent via github-notify-ml as configured in https://github.com/w3c/github-notify-ml-config
