bert-github has just created a new issue for https://github.com/w3c/i18n-activity: == Explain the mapping tables (appendix C) == C. Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols https://www.w3.org/TR/mathml-core/#new-text-transform-mappings > The following tables enumerate the mathematical alphanumeric symbols with form bold, italic, fraktur, monospace, double-struck etc that are available in Unicode. For each of them, the character in its normal form is provided as well as the difference between the code points of the transformed and original characters. The italic mapping table is used to implement the 'text-transform' property ([section 4.2](https://www.w3.org/TR/mathml-core/#new-text-transform-values)). The other mapping tables are not explained, but appear to implement various values of the mathvariant attribute ([section 3.2.2](https://www.w3.org/TR/mathml-core/#the-mi-element)) that are defined in MathML3, but not in MathML Core (‘bold’, ‘double-struck’, ‘fraktur’, etc.). Some browsers use them that way. The spec suggests that those MathML3 values must be ignored. If that is the case, why are those tables in the spec? And if browsers are allowed to support those values, shouldn't the role of the tables be explained? --- **WHEN CREATING A NEW ISSUE DO SO ABOVE THIS PARAGRAPH, REPLACING THE PROMPTS, BUT LEAVE THIS PARAGRAPH INTACT AS WELL AS THE TEXT BELOW IT** When this issue is raised in the github/bugzilla/mail of the WG that owns the spec, use the text above this para as the basis for that comment. Then edit this issue to remove this paragraph and ALL THE TEXT ABOVE IT. Replace the text 'link_to_issue_raised' below with a link to the place you raised the issue, but leave the remaining text below this para unaltered. **This is a tracker issue.** Only discuss things here if they are i18n WG internal meta-discussions about the issue. **Contribute to the actual discussion at the following link:** § link_to_issue_raised Please view or discuss this issue at https://github.com/w3c/i18n-activity/issues/1840 using your GitHub account -- Sent via github-notify-ml as configured in https://github.com/w3c/github-notify-ml-config
