https://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=28743 Bug ID: 28743 Summary: Sectioning content defines scope of headers as well as headings and footers Product: HTML WG Version: unspecified Hardware: PC OS: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: HTML5 spec Assignee: dave.null@w3.org Reporter: jason@accesscult.org QA Contact: public-html-bugzilla@w3.org CC: mike@w3.org, public-html-admin@w3.org, public-html-wg-issue-tracking@w3.org Sectioning content is identified as defining "the scope of headings and footers" [1]. Both <footer> [2] and <header> [3] elements are scoped to their nearest ancestor sectioning content or sectioning root element. As such, sectioning content defines the scope of headers as much as footers, and this should be reflected in the definition of sectioning content, e.g. "Sectioning content is content that defines the scope of headings, headers and footers."
