https://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=17673 --- Comment #20 from Steven Robertson <strobe@google.com> --- A device manufacturer can put a newer browser on a device with an older implementation of a protection system, and that older protection system might require something beyond key ID and URL. For instance, older versions of PlayReady require a checksum of the content key to be present in the initialization data in order to generate a challenge. It may be argued that every protection scheme going forward should restrict itself to not requiring any kind of extra initialization data. Such an argument, if followed, would exclude many devices, leaving only new, high-end devices with platform support for newer CDM implementations. Due to long CE manufacturing timelines, devices with older CDMs will continue to be produced for some time, and so such a position could leave many users out in the cold. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the QA Contact for the bug.
