Since this is just about observing what is happening, I wouldn't think it
introduces raciness. Returning the real value rather than anything
task-dependent would be the objective.

Attributes that aren't applicable would just return 0, e.g. in an audio-only
file no video frames would be decoded.

I'll put use cases into the wiki page.
