http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=13547 Summary: overloading of input element is confusing Product: HTML WG Version: unspecified Platform: PC OS/Version: Windows NT Status: NEW Keywords: a11y, a11ytf Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: HTML5 spec (editor: Ian Hickson) AssignedTo: ian@hixie.ch ReportedBy: cyns@microsoft.com QAContact: public-html-bugzilla@w3.org CC: mike@w3.org, public-html-wg-issue-tracking@w3.org, public-html@w3.org Attributes of the input element only work with certain types. This was true in HTML 4, but with the introduction of new types becomes much more of an issue. Even in HTML 4, use of the @alt attribute with input types other than image was a common authoring error. With all of the new types and their associated attributes, this is more confusing, and we are concerned that it will introduce more authoring errors. Like using @alt on input types that don't support it results in inputs with no accessibility name, mis-use of other attributes can cause accessibility problems. We recognize the backward-compatibility value of using <input>, and that it may be necessary to support that for some time. We would like to create a roadmap for deprecating overloaded input in favor of elements with dedicated attributes. -- Configure bugmail: http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug.
