The Chairs do not want to act on the srcset attribute extension specification without discussing this first with the Editor, Ted O'Connor. I sent a note to Ted about this matter but have not heard back. I am copying him on this message. I recommend we wait until at least early next week and if we have not heard back from Ted I will start using other channels to reach him. /paulc Paul Cotton, Microsoft Canada 17 Eleanor Drive, Ottawa, Ontario K2E 6A3 Tel: (425) 705-9596 Fax: (425) 936-7329 From: matmarquis.com [mailto:mat@matmarquis.com] Sent: Thursday, July 10, 2014 4:42 PM To: matmarquis.com Cc: Paul Cotton; public-html-admin@w3.org Subject: Re: CfC: publish <picture> extension spec as a WG Note Following up on this, as I was just alerted to a conference presentation instructing people on how to use the old defunct `srcset` syntax based on the W3C document linked below. I'd like to prevent this from happening any further, and would highly appreciate your advice on the next steps for getting this document removed, or updated with a link to the real specification and published as a note. The document linked above references a *visually* similar but abandoned syntax, and it has led to some confusion-for example, it's still linked under http://status.modern.ie/imgsrcset, despite `srcset` as defined by `picture` being well underway or fully implemented in all of the major rendering engines. The quicker we can formally clear up this confusion, the better. -M On Jul 7, at 3:50 PM, Paul Cotton wrote: The HTML Chairs are issuing a Call for Consensus to publish the <picture> extension specification as a WG Note. Work has been completed on this extension specification and the technical material has now been folded into HTML 5.1 [1-2]. The candidate WG Note document can be found here: http://berjon.com/tmp/tombstone-picture.html Silence will be taken to mean there is no objection, but positive responses are encouraged. If there are no objections by Monday July 14, this resolution will carry. /paulc on behalf of the HTML WG co-chairs [1] http://www.w3.org/html/wg/drafts/html/master/#the-picture-element [2] https://github.com/w3c/html/commit/de45e40e432cae62acfe194496428cdc2373f638 Paul Cotton, Microsoft Canada 17 Eleanor Drive, Ottawa, Ontario K2E 6A3 Tel: (425) 705-9596 Fax: (425) 936-7329
