The charter change doesn't require the editors to do anything different. 
  Nobody is asking the editors to change.  I certainly am not.

If the editors don't plan any changes, it occurs to me that the simplest 
possible fix is to remove the part of the sentence starting with the 
comma and ending with the period.

Given Mike's input, and if you are so inclined, you might want to add 
text that is more inclusive of the various groups out there.
