https://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=23710 Bug ID: 23710 Summary: Add support for forced subtitles Product: WHATWG Version: unspecified Hardware: PC OS: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: HTML Assignee: ian@hixie.ch Reporter: silviapfeiffer1@gmail.com QA Contact: contributor@whatwg.org CC: eoconnor@apple.com, eric.carlson@apple.com, glenn@skynav.com, mike@w3.org, public-html-admin@w3.org, public-html-wg-issue-tracking@w3.org, silviapfeiffer1@gmail.com, victor.carbune@gmail.com Depends on: 21667 +++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #21667 +++ Rationale: http://lists.whatwg.org/pipermail/whatwg-whatwg.org/2013-April/039374.html also see the discussion on the bug. The request is to introduce @kind="forced" with "forced subtitles" defineded as: Forced Subtitles are common on movies. Forced subtitles only provide subtitles when the characters speak a foreign or alien language, or a sign, flag, or other text in a scene is not translated in the localization and dubbing process. In some cases, foreign dialogue may be left untranslated if the movie is meant to be seen from the point of view of a particular character who does not speak the language in question. Note that WebKit already has an implementation of this and Chromium has a bug: https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=271185 . -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
