There have recently been requests for an update on ARIA development timelines. This message is my attempt to concisely address this question. Please do not hesitate to ask for further information. ARIA 1.0 -- We hope to exit Candidate Recommendation status late this calendar year. We are currently constructing and conducting tests to document two independent implementations of all our RFC 2119 normative requirements. We have dependencies on two other documents which must also exit CR at the same time: The Role Attribute Module http://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/role-attribute/ The ARIA User Agent Implementation Guide http://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/aria-implementation/ At our recently concluded Face to Face meeting we determined to send this document through a second Last Call process. ARIA 1.1 -- Work on ARIA 1.1 will begin as testing of ARIA 1.0 concludes. ARIA 1.1 is intended ONLY for errata and simple feature enhancements. Our intent is to produce ARIA 1.1 quickly--in less than a calendar year. Thus, more complex issues which require time to properly design, document and test will NOT be taken up in ARIA 1.1 but rather deferred to ARIA 2.0. ARIA 2.0 -- Work on ARIA 2.0 will begin as work on ARIA 1.1 concludes. We expect this will be sometime in mid to late calendar year 2013.
