Leif Halvard Silli, Tue, 3 May 2011 18:12:54 +0200, in reply to Richard Schwerdtfeger: >> The only time role="presentation should be allowed on an image is >> when it does not have an form of alternative text such as: >> >> - alt="" >> - title="" >> either alt or title are absent as properties Richard, your input here was very helpful when I shaped bug 12590, [1] which is the one I promised Steve I would file. In regard to the bug discussed in the current thread, bug 12587, as well as in regard to you and Steve's advocation of alt="" as interchangeable with role=presentation, then your comments above shows that alt="" is not always equal to role=presentation, since an empty or omitted @title is required as well. This is new info. But not necessarily info which supports reopening the Decision. By the way: an empty @alt plus an empty or omitted @title is not the only thing that is required to make sure AT treats the IMG as presentational: judging by how VoiceOver behaves, there must also not be any @aria-label, @aria-labelledby or @aria-describedby. I have not said this in bug 12590 - but it perhaps should be said? Feel free to add it. [1] http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=12590 -- Leif H Silli
