Hi John and all,

In the initial decision the Chairs said, "alternatives exists
(explicit links, aria-describedby, figure captions)".

Currently none of the proposed solutions alternatives are functional
replacements [1] for longdesc.

Paul, Sam, and Maciej, if ARIA provides a functional replacement will
not the Chairs then kill off longdesc?

Some would be happy to sacrifice longdesc in exchange for ARIA
promotion/incorporation. longdesc has been a PF bargaining chip from
the start [2].

I hope you are right. The new decision for Issue 30 will provide the answer.
