On balance it seems that the issue raised in comment 10 is largely academic and completely outweighed by the issue raised in comment 0, comment 1, and comment 3, and no other use cases have been raised (despite comment 4 saying there are "many legitimate use cases"). However, I could see an argument being made for the position in comment 10. I don't see any argument for the status quo.
