Hello Everyone, This week's report includes one WONTFIX bug resolution, one NEEDSINFO bug resolution, one WORKSFORME bug resolution, one LATER bug resolution, and two FIXED bug resolutions. Three bugs were REOPENED. This week the task force officially accepted 35 more bugs as A11yTF bugs. The task force decided not to accept 48 a11y bugs as A11yTF bugs at this time. There seems to be four bugs with the "a11y" keyword that the task force has not considered for "a11ytf" status. The Bugzilla keywords "a11y_canvas", "a11y_display", "a11y_drag-drop", "a11y_focus", "a11y_labels", "a11y_semantics", "a11y_table_headers", "a11y_table_summary", "a11y_text-alt", and "aria" have been created and are searchable. http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/describekeywords.cgi I have been asked to provide some recommendations regarding resolved bugs in the weekly report. The details are as follows. 1. WONTFIX BUG: Bug 8827: "Inappropriate spec text and advice where images are not known" reported by Joshue O Connor. http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=8827 LC Suggestion: This bug probably doesn't need to be reopened as HTML Issue 31 supersedes it. The HTML Chairs have called for Change Proposals and three have been drafted. http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/31 http://www.w3.org/html/wg/wiki/ChangeProposals/ImgElement20091209 http://www.w3.org/html/wg/wiki/ChangeProposals/ImgElement20090126 http://www.w3.org/html/wg/wiki/ChangeProposals/ImgElement20091203 At this point, input from the task force to improve the proposals would be a helpful next step. Threads: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-a11y/2010Feb/thread.html#msg27 http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-a11y/2010Jan/thread.html#msg310 http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-a11y/2010Feb/thread.html#msg22 All of the Text Alternative Bugs that the Task Force has decided to track are directly related to and seem to be superseded by Issue 31. http://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/HTML/wiki/Bugs/accepted#Text_Alternative_Bugs 2. NEEDSINFO BUGS: Bug 8885: "Fallback mechanism for embedded content" reported by Gez Lemon. Editor's Suggestion: "I don't understand. Could you elaborate?" http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=8885#c1 LC Suggestion: The bug reporter and anyone else who is interested try to give Ian the information that he needs. All NEEDSINFO bugs http://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/HTML/wiki/Bugs#Resolution:_NEEDSINFO_Bugs 3. RESOLVED WORKSFORME BUGS: Bug 8736: "Decision to playback for media should be left to the user agent" reported by Gez Lemon. Editor's Rationale: "As Philip says, a tab not having focus doesn't mean it's not fully active." http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=8736#c6 LC Suggestion: The bug reporter and anyone else interested verify that this resolution works for everyone. All WORKSFORME bugs http://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/HTML/wiki/Bugs#Resolution:_WORKSFORME_Bugs 4. LATER BUGS: Bug 8659: "Media events to indicate captions and audio" reported by Gez Lemon. Editor's Rationale: "I agree that we need an API for getting the timed-track data. I'm waiting for the browsers to catch up with what we have so far before expanding the media API further." http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=8659#c4 LC Suggestion: The bug reporter and anyone else interested please make sure there is agreement on the postponement and time frame. NOTE: Bugzilla now has a "HTML future versions" component for HTML spec bugs. All LATER bugs http://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/HTML/wiki/Bugs#Resolution:_LATER_Bugs 5. FIXED BUGS: Bug 8717: "Usability and Element-level-focus-apis" reported by Joshue O Connor. Editor's Rationale: "Concurred with reporter's comments" http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=8717#c3 LC Suggestion: The bug reporter and anyone else interested verify that the fix corrects the problem. The spec revision is at http://html5.org/tools/web-apps-tracker?from=4732&to=4733 Bug 8929: "In the assistive technology section, explicitly mention role and aria-* (as we do a few lines above for "custom data attributes")" reported by contributor@whatwg.org. Editor's Rationale: "Concurred with reporter's comments" http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=8929#c1 LC Suggestion: The bug reporter and anyone else interested verify that the fix corrects the problem. The spec revision is at http://html5.org/tools/web-apps-tracker?from=4748&to=4749 All FIXED bugs http://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/HTML/wiki/Bugs#Resolution:_FIXED_Bugs 6. REOPENED BUGS: The following three bugs were reopened. Steve details each in his bug comments. Bug 8652: "What to display when images are not available is not well specified" reported by Steve Faulkner. http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=8652 Bug 8723: "Image map is underspecified" reported by Steve Faulkner. http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=8723 Bug 8872: "Split out and modify parts of Section 4.8.2.1 the img element" reported by Steve Faulkner. http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=8872 All REOPENED bugs http://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/HTML/wiki/Bugs#Status:_REOPENED_Bugs 7. CLOSED BUGS: Bug 6462: "Self-reference and cyclic references in headers=''" reported and closed by Simon Pieters. http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=6462 LC Suggestion: It seems that Bug 6462 can remain closed unless anyone sees something amiss in: http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/tabular-data.html#attr-tdth-headers Bug 6494: "Make the requiredness about alt more obvious" reported and closed by Simon Pieters. http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=6494 LC Suggestion: Again this text alternative bug is superseded by HTML Issue 31. The HTML Chairs have called for Change Proposals. One has been drafted to help solve problem. http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/31 http://www.w3.org/html/wg/wiki/ChangeProposals/ImgElement20090126 For a next step input from the task force to improve the proposal would be helpful. Threads: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-a11y/2010Jan/thread.html#msg310 http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-html-a11y/2010Feb/thread.html#msg22 Bug 6496: "[blocked on aria] Allow <img aria-labelledby> to act as a caption" reported and closed by Simon Pieters. http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=6496 LC Suggestion: This bug is a duplicate of Bug 8171. It seems that closing it okay. All CLOSED bugs http://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/HTML/wiki/Bugs#Status:_CLOSED_Bugs 8. BUGS WITH NO DOCUMENTED TASK FORCE DECISION: It is unclear whether the Task Force has made a decision on whether or not to officially track the following four a11y bugs as there are no comments either way on the bugs from Michael. Bug 8000: "ARIA roles added to the a element should be conforming in HTML5" Reported by Steve Faulkner. http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=8000 LC Suggestion: This bug has already been escalated to Tracker Issue 85. http://www.w3.org/html/wg/tracker/issues/85 But it might be good to apply the "a11ytf" keyword anyway so that the task force is alerted as bug 8000 makes it's way though the escalation process. http://dev.w3.org/html5/decision-policy/decision-policy.html#states-and-keywords Bug 8717: "Usability and Element-level-focus-apis" Reported by Joshue O Connor. http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=8717 LC Suggestion: This bug is also in the FIXED category. Depending on the verification of it being fixed, the task force may or may not want to track this. Bug 8671: "Requiring the label attribute" Reported by Gez Lemon. http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=8671 LC Suggestion: This bug is in the WORKSFORME category. Depending on the reporter's verification of it working, the task force may or may not want us to track this. Bug 8929: "In the assistive technology section, explicitly mention role and aria-* (as we do a few lines above for "custom data attributes")" reported by contributor@whatwg.org. http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=8929 LC Suggestion: It seems that no anyone in the task force reported this bug. It is in the FIXED stage. The spec revision is at: http://html5.org/tools/web-apps-tracker?from=4732&to=4733 If anyone would like the task force to pursue this bug please speak up. 9.
