Looking at the quickref for 5.6.0, “quiet” seems to be the parameter that Geoff meant by “-q”

When enabled, this option limits Tidy's non-document output to report only document warnings and errors.

No visible connection between –quiet and -q on that page, though.

Have you tried the -q option? It should do what you want...
