RE: Merging WPT and Blink test codes (was Re: [media-source] MSE Spec Test Coverage Report (Feb. 2016)

Although the current Blink tests you identified [1] are limited to testing EME “clear key” scenarios, their overall approach might be usable to test the use of encrypted content, of course with significant modifications.

But since these tests have not yet been submitted to WPT I doubt that others have the “rights” to start building on the Blink approach. Without waiting for you to have time to make the actual WPT submission, can you think of any way of sending these tests to the HME WG so others could start to use them as the basis of more tests?

We have the same approval and conditions for the EME files in https://code.google.com/p/chromium/codesearch#chromium/src/third_party/WebKit/LayoutTests/media/encrypted-media/.

I expect that the same conditions would apply, but I am awaiting a response specifically on the EME files.

Note that the Blink layout tests mainly cover syntax and Clear Key. The latter will be important for covering https://w3c.github.io/encrypted-media/#clear-key, but we'll need a different set of tests to demonstrate interoperability of commercial Key Systems. Also, since Edge does not support Clear Key, we'll need to use Firefox or some other browser for those tests.

Can you use this permission to submit some of your Blink EME test cases?

Today, I have internal confirmation that that specific license text [*] looks good. Yosuke, please go ahead and share this progress with the WG members on the public mailing list.
Also, thanks everyone for having patience while I worked this through the proper channels.

Hi Matt,

Good news from my side. The legal counsels to W3C gave me a greenlight to change the W3C license to include "chromium authors" like
"Copyright © 2016 Chromium authors and World Wide Web Consortium, (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, ERCIM, Keio University, Beihang)."

Thank you so much for taking the task of preparing the PR.

I think we are all set and ready to start the merge process.

If you don't have any additional concerns or questions, I'll share this progress information with the WG members on the public mailing list.

Regards,
Yosuke

Hi Yosuke - Please let me do one final check internally to clear that specific license text before sharing with the public mailing list. I'll reply back on this thread ASAP.

Thanks,
Matt
