I briefly explain a motivation. For me, a key use case for GRDDL is to work with the HTML Web; which is browser based. Thus, it feels to me that if a browser directs a user to a document when they click on a link, that, in general, GRDDL transforms, should represent that link with the same URL as the browser gets to; using an equivalent computation to the one the browser has used. Obviously this is predicated on which standards are in play ... and it seems that in CDF (from Ivan) and the unfinished XHTML+MathML+SVG that it is possible to have both base mechanisms in operation at the same time. I have only found firefox that implements XHTML+MathML+SVG, it appears to work additively, more later.
