Hi all, Thanks everyone for joining this list, welcome! I just wanted to introduce myself and give a quick update on where we are [1]. Some of this will be a bit of "inside baseball", so I'll follow up on the technical conversations separately in their appropriate threads. I'm Matt Womer, one of the proposed W3C Team Contacts for this Working Group. I'm also the contact for Voice Browser, POWDER, and Device Descriptions. Some of you I know and have worked with in the past, others I'm just meeting now. Given the stellar list of people who have expressed an interest in this area, I'm sure we're doing something good. Process-wise, thus far the group has been mentioned in an "advance notice" to the W3C Advisory Committee (AC), which roughly sketched-out the work we may do. The follow up to that will be a proposed charter for the Working Group, which is a detailed work plan with deliverables, schedules, dependencies, as well as a proposed Chairperson. (If you are interested in chairing the group, or have a suggestion as to who should chair, please contact me. There's a brief guide to chairing at [2].) I have been writing a draft charter over the past few days. Once the charter is sufficiently edited, reviewed, etc, and approved, our WG gets officially formed and we're off. This takes some time, so in the interest of not losing momentum Doug established this list for public discussion. Aside from writing the charter, I have also been contacting interested parties to join our group. If there is someone you think I should be in contact with, please let me know. As you've likely already seen in Andrei's mail [3] (thanks Andrei!) there is a corner of W3C [4] Web space that we can play in until our WG gets it's official home. I'd like to use this space for draft proposals that we can then reference in our discussions here. If you'd like to contribute another API proposal, please contact me, and we'll see about getting authorized, etc. I look forward to working with all of you, feel free to contact me with any comments, questions, chain letters, or suggestions. Thanks, -Matt Womer [1] I also wanted to be the first (hopefully last?) to make a location joke [2] http://www.w3.org/Guide/chair-roles.html [3] http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-geolocation/2008Jun/0000.html [4] http://dev.w3.org/geo/Overview.html
