It would be useful if the Games Community Group could initiate a web Standards Game Format - wSGF & Game Protocol - wGTP

there is a popular pre-internet Smart Game Format SGF:
http://www.red-bean.com/sgf/

SGF is currently ubiquitous for recording the ancient oriental board game of Go,
it is also well used for Chess, and is used for Backgammon.
however it is not directly suited to the web, being neither XML, JSON or another web standard.

The Go Text Protocol is designed to enable communication with Go game engines
http://www.lysator.liu.se/~gunnar/gtp/

creating complete conversion tools would not be arduous,
though generalising wGTP for a Game Protocol would need further deliberation.

Petr Baudis and I made a start on these using JSON,
a demonstration using his pachi engine is at http://www.peepo.com
iPad, iPhone. Kindle, Blackberry, Android,
as well as netbooks, laptops desktops using Safari, Opera, Firefox and soon IE10

If any one has created, is considering creating or would like to contribute please make contact

kind regards
