Note that the [codepen](https://codepen.io/krit/pen/pxOMdz) posted by @dirkschulze has a typo in it (isolation: isolated instead of isolation: isolate). If that is [fixed](https://codepen.io/anon/pen/ReEobj) then shows that indeed mix-blend-mode only mixes with the containing isolated group, not all the way to the root.
