I'd suggest the following wording for x:
> The horizontal distance between the rectangle’s origin and the origin of a given coordinate space.

In the first normative section there should be something like:

> A specification that makes use of any of the APIs defined here must specify a coordinate space that the APIs operate on. E.g. the default coordinate space for elements is the `user coordinate space` [CSS-Transforms-1].
