Hi,

The Compositing spec text[1] says:

“Overlay is the inverse of the ‘hardlight’ blend mode. See the definition of ‘hardlight’ for the formula.”

There is no other mentioning of this blend mode than here. The formula for ‘overlay’ uses the hardlight() function which is not specified either as far as I can tell.
