http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/federatedsocialweb/wiki/Best_Practices_for_the_Open_Social_Web - 4 Why Federate?<http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/federatedsocialweb/wiki/Best_Practices_for_the_Open_Social_Web#Why_Federate.3F> - This should be the first step imho It is not answered in any meaningful way. The concept of the network effect is not mentioned *at all* - 1 ToDo<http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/federatedsocialweb/wiki/Best_Practices_for_the_Open_Social_Web#ToDo> Could this be moved, maybe to the bottom? - 2 Different Approaches<http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/federatedsocialweb/wiki/Best_Practices_for_the_Open_Social_Web#Different_Approaches> I dont think this belongs in the document http://useraddress.net:12380/ is a dead link 5 User Stories and Use Cases<http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/federatedsocialweb/wiki/Best_Practices_for_the_Open_Social_Web#User_Stories_and_Use_Cases> Separate document imho - 6 General Guidelines<http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/federatedsocialweb/wiki/Best_Practices_for_the_Open_Social_Web#General_Guidelines> +1 to everything - 7 Forces<http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/federatedsocialweb/wiki/Best_Practices_for_the_Open_Social_Web#Forces> This is a bit nebolous i dont think it says much about best practices 8 Relevant Standards and Specifications<http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/federatedsocialweb/wiki/Best_Practices_for_the_Open_Social_Web#Relevant_Standards_and_Specifications> Seems OK - 9 Mobile Devices<http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/federatedsocialweb/wiki/Best_Practices_for_the_Open_Social_Web#Mobile_Devices> +1 to support mobile - 10 Feeds<http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/federatedsocialweb/wiki/Best_Practices_for_the_Open_Social_Web#Feeds> Seems OK 12 Identities and User Profiles<http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/federatedsocialweb/wiki/Best_Practices_for_the_Open_Social_Web#Identities_and_User_Profiles> Seems important *disclaimer* I wrote part of it. As "best practices" we really want to bring everyone *willing* up to 5 star interop. - 13 Linked Data and the Open Social Web<http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/federatedsocialweb/wiki/Best_Practices_for_the_Open_Social_Web#Linked_Data_and_the_Open_Social_Web> fine but doesnt say much - 14 Audio and Video Communication<http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/federatedsocialweb/wiki/Best_Practices_for_the_Open_Social_Web#Audio_and_Video_Communication> Out of scope perhaps until other sections are filled 15 Privacy and Security<http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/federatedsocialweb/wiki/Best_Practices_for_the_Open_Social_Web#Privacy_and_Security> Worth a section on this, but there's no magic bullet *Next Steps* If anyone is still interested in this I think it needs: 1. Cleanup, and move a lot of items to a supporting document 2. Establish who is still actively persuing federation (if anyone) 3. Write the "why" section and review I've spoken to a couple of projects lately and 2-4 are interested in federated profiles, if we can have more then it would help to flesh out a clearer best practices document that will act to grow the network effect among participants
