Agree with the rest of what you said but this (names/identity) is
something I think everyone can/should settle on. FWIW, I think interop
on the web should be based on URLs not email addresses, but I'm biased
coming from an indieweb [1] perspective. You can apply HTTP methods to
URLs by default rather than require an indirection like webfinger for
email "like" labels.
