We have pleasure in announcing that the specification for the *EXPath Binary* module, a library of extension functions for manipulating binary data in XPath/XQuery/XSLT, has been released as the *1.0 version*. The specification can be found at http://expath.org/spec/binary We thank all those in the EXPath community who have contributed to the extensive discussion and modification of this specification over the past six months, and hope that the existence of a stable definition for a comprehensive and tested set of functions for binary data manipulation will prove helpful to both implementors of processing tools and more importantly application developers. Two test-suites (developed by different implementors) for the module are available at https://github.com/expath/expath-cg/tree/master/tests/qt3/binary. Other information, such as samples, will appear in http://expath.org/modules/binary/ This is the first of the EXPath modules that has been stabilised at 1.0 level. We hope that over the coming months a few more will too - even ones that have been used practically for some time, but where the stabilising effect of a version-number imprimatur will increase the confidence of application developers. Good luck with 'fiddling the bits'!
