Hi, This is to inform that the UK Chapter of ISKO (International Society for Knowledge Organization) has now been officially established and is being chaired by Vanda Broughton and Bob Bater. Our website is here: http://www.iskouk.org/, with our links page pointing to fora, standards, topics that we observe and would like to include in our activities. We have also created blog for promoting research and communication in knowledge organisation (http://iskouk.blogspot.com) to which anyone interested in our field is welcome to contribute. We had our first meeting on Monday where Alan Gilchrist gave a presentation (available at http://www.iskouk.org/inaugural.htm), titled "If it rained knowledge" which initiated a very interesting discussion that made us realise that there are important real-life issues, common across sectors and information seeking environments, waiting to be addressed. Our group consists of independent information consultants/IT specialists, university lecturers, librarians, editors of the universal classification systems and other individuals working in information management/knowledge organisation in some way or another and would welcome those of you who might be interested in our aims and discussions! We are also members of other professional organizations/fora (to mention only a few: British Computer Society, CILIP, UKeIG, Records Management Society, NetIKX - Network for Information and Knowledge Exchange) and we hope to bring these communities closer together through ISKO UK activities. You can join ISKO UK from the website. Kind regards Aida Slavic
