FAQ: OWL + SKOS - compatibility? Ontology definition?

Dear SME whom can provide me with an answer! J

Hi, I am relatively new to SKOS and OWL. I have searched all over Google but
I cannot seem to get a consensus on how to combine OWL and SKOS. In
particular, what I am trying to achieve is that I would like to define an
OWL ontology which uses some of the vocabulary from SKOS Core as well as
some application specific extension to SKOS that intend to make.

I read some information about problems with skos:prefLabel etc. being
subclass of rdfs:label and hence must be declared in OWL as either
DataTypeProperty or AnnotationProperty
(http://www.w3.org/2006/07/SWD/wiki/SkosDesign/OwlCompatibility). Not sure
exactly what this means.

I would great appreciate it if some SME could give me some guidance in this
area. An example would be most appreciated!

Thanks

Kim
