Re: W3C Equity Community Group

Hi Equity CG,

Today’s minutes: https://www.w3.org/2024/07/22-equity-minutes.html

While Tzviya and I reviewed the draft maturity model evolution we had questions about terminology and reviewed the current Accessibility Maturity Model.

It has changed since we started this effort in January (?) and the new model is clearer and easier to understand.

Jen will copy the new accessibility maturity model and incorporate our work-to-date ahead of our next equity community group meeting on August 5.

Thank you, and see you on August 5,
Jen

Hello Equity Community Group!
Minutes
We met on Monday, July 8: Bruce Bailey, Wendy Reid, and me.

  * We discussed that the APA group (Accessible Platform Architectures) would like to meet with us at TPAC. I don’t yet have a definitive agenda. From what they’ve said, they want to hear what we are working on. Perhaps they’ve forgotten / don’t know that Sheri Byrne-Haber spoke with the Accessibility Maturity Model (AMM) task force at the beginning of this effort to obtain this permission, and David Fazio was also in communication at the outset.
  * To date we’ve used the AMM as a template (build on greatness, right?) to evolve and include equity, sustainable web, and thinking towards the inclusion of internationalization, privacy, and web performance.
  * Bruce and I worked on the document a bit. I don’t think repeating ‘accessible, equitable, and environmentally sustainable” over and over is user centered. It makes the readability difficult. I brought in some elements from a policy template. At the outset we define the principles of the policy. As we move through the document, we may outline the dimensions and evidence, but they don’t need to list out those principles over and over. Instead, there will be specifics, including references to guidelines. This may not work, but we shall see.
  * Under the section, “Communications proof points<https://w3c.github.io/maturity-model/#dfn-proof-point> may include but are not limited to:” there are some bullet points highlighted. Those are the original text from the AMM. In sub-bullets beneath each are multiple options that could replace those. This is where that repetition really became “noisy.”
