These are both very well deserved awards. As a member of the jury for this award (which I couldn't reveal until after the announcement), I want you to know--Gregorio and Rachel (and Cristina)--that the entries were particularly strong this year, and there were many of them, almost all of them doing work deserving of the awards. That in itself is really good news about accessibility. But there was very strong consensus among the jurors that Macmillan Learning and LIA should get the awards. You are both doing exemplary work--just what the awards are intended to highlight. I'm sorry the LBF was cancelled so that you couldn't accept the awards in person.

Bravo/brava!!

Dear everyone,
at this time of global difficulties, I am writing to share some good news for the world of accessibility and EPUB.

As you may have read in the last days, the winners of the ABC Consortium had been announced and both are part of this Community Group!

  * Macmillan Learning (represented in this group by our great co-chiar Rachel) was recognized in the publisher category as the first Global Certified Accessible (GCA) publisher producing products and learning materials in accessible formats for students with different kinds of vision impairment.
  * Fondazione LIA (humbly represented by me) was recognized in the initiative category for their achievements in improving the accessibility of e-books and other digital publications for people who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise print-disabled.
As we all are living a very difficult situation, this news fosters us to keep working and hope to be back to normal very soon. For us the award is a very big stimulus to continue our commitment to foster the creation of an accessible publishing ecosystem and collaborate with others organizations to achieve this goal.

We really hope to have a chance soon to celebrate with you all properly.

Best wishes,
Gregorio
